If you are contemplating a trip of like this it is a must that you talk to Mike Wright at the lock before venturing down the river from the Dog in a Doublet. This man is a wealth of information regarding the tidal reaches of the river. He will explain the tidal flows and when best to travel. Get it wrong and you will be sitting for 12 hours on the mud.
